The Head Custodian will be in charge of the total operation of the building including directing the custodial staff, monitoring and adjusting the HVAC and refrigeration systems, setting door schedules, and overseeing usage of the facilities by school, recreation and community.
S/he will also overlook building security and strive to provide a clean, safe environment to support the educational process.
Ability to assist office and school staff daily.
Responsibilities:
Assign, schedule, train, and supervise custodial staff in order to present a clean, well-kept atmosphere at all times.
Responsible for evaluations of custodial staff.
Clean areas assigned to the head custodian and assist others as needed.
Shall be responsible for maintaining adequate inventory of custodial supplies and the care of the custodial equipment.
Strive to promote safety, health and comfort of students and staff.
Ensure pumps, ventilation, boilers, air compressors, and all equipment are running properly.
Watch energy consumption; turning off lights and equipment when not in use; reporting items not complying with the energy policy.
Perform snow removal and salt areas at entrances as needed.
Responsible for maintaining all mechanical equipment in good working order.
Mechanical filters need to be changed regularly.
Minor maintenance will be required such as lights, ballasts, door hardware, furniture and equipment repairs, plumbing, etc.
Moving of items will be required such as furniture, supplies, tables, bleachers, etc.
School office will need your assistance daily.
Assist with set ups and facility requests for school events or rentals.
Shall maintain a line of communication with the principal and the Facilities office concerning staff relations, repairs and building usage.
Weekend building checks are required once on the weekend.
This is considered overtime and outside the 40 hour work week.
Must be self-motivated to continually move about the building daily and clean and triage and custodial items that may arise.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; college or trade school classes preferred with HVAC systems, plumbing, technology, and supervision.
Must be able to pass a background check and be fingerprinted.
Leadership skills should include the ability to schedule, train and motivate custodial crew.
Ability to resolve issues and conflicts that arise.
Must be self-directed, task oriented, and a willingness to learn new job skills and techniques.
Possess good work habits, excellent character, flexibility, and dependability.
Must have good communications and interpersonal skills to establish effective relationships with all (students, employees, staff, public, and contractors).
Must have high standards for cleaning and safety as a priority.
Prioritize and address daily activities, as well as planning for work/projects to be completed at breaks and summers.
The ability to use a computer for HVAC system, maintenance work orders, facility rentals, and general communications.
Ability to do minor maintenance, operate power tools, and needed equipment for custodial and maintenance.
Must be able to lift heavy objects, approximately 50 pounds.
Must have the ability to work effectively in an environment where frequent interruptions occur.
Strenuous physical and mental effort and handling unsterilized body fluids is occasionally necessary.
Frequently requires moving or lifting equipment, supplies and boxes.
